What a sinking fund does

A sinking fund breaks a known future expense into smaller contributions. It works well for annual bills, repairs, holidays, travel, and other costs you expect.

How the estimate works

The amount still needed is divided by the approximate number of contribution dates before your deadline. Monthly and biweekly timing are estimates, so rounding the contribution up can add breathing room.

Keep it current

Update the target if the expected cost changes. Keep near-term bill money somewhere accessible and review account fees, withdrawal rules, and insurance coverage.
